How To Quit Your Israeli Job and Still Receive Severance Pay

How To Quit Your Israeli Job and Still Receive Severance Pay 30 Many of us dream of resigning but fear losing our accumulated severance pay. As it turns out, in Israel there are many cases where an employee can resign and still retain severance pay. One only needs to know when the law allows it. This article is a guest post by Moshe Egel-Tal, CSPP. If you’d also like to guest post here on JobMob, follow these guest post guidelines. Scared about your severance rights? The employed-job sector has gone through many revolutionary changes in recent years that are characterized mainly by a huge turnover of positions. The days when an employee was secure and stable in his position for life â€" that were a major factor in accepting a position â€" are no longer. Employees aren't afraid anymore to change jobs and if someone stays at a position for 3-4 years it is considered a long-term position. Due to high employee mobilization, many employees would like to resign in order to pursue other job opportunities but refrain from doing so because they know they will only get severance pay if they are terminated by their employer. A new law may help… There is a pending law that is waiting for Knesset verification, which if passed will enable employees to resign after completing one year of tenure with an employer and still receive severance pay. Many are skeptical about this law's chances, especially since it was already voted upon in the 16th Knesset and defeated. Update 18/11/10: the law still hasn't passed yet.eval What is “a tangible worsening”? The most common case of resignation that is recognized by law as a “forced situation” on the employee â€" thereby granting him severance pay rights as if he was terminated â€" is called a tangible worsening of his employment conditions or reasons that as a result one would not be expected to continue in his position. The wording “a tangible worsening” includes a very wide range of situations which aren't clearly explicit in the wording of the law. So what is “a tangible worsening” ? The rulings of Israel's National Labor Court have defined this as a situation in which the employer has narrowed an employee's steps or worsened his working conditions to a point where he has no alternative but to resign. Typical examples The classic case is regarding an employee's wages, which are a basic and integral part of any employee's terms and conditions of employment in a contract between the employee and the employer and cannot be disregarded unilaterally by the employer. Valid instances that are determined to be “a tangible worsening” of terms of employment are:eval frequently recurring failure to pay salaries for an extended period of time failure to pay minimum wages reducing wages (salary cut) There are, of course, other reasons that fit well into this category. For example, failure to transfer social benefits that have been deducted from employee's payslips to their destination, or employing an employee at less than minimum conditions as specified by the law. One example of the latter is requiring an employee to work on Shabbat or a holiday without ample compensation as required by law. Another would be an employer ignoring significant breaches in safety, health issues. Unfortunately, a one-time case isn't usually regarded as “a tangible worsening”. 15 cases according to the Severance Pay Law Here is a list of 15 cases where an employee can resign and claim severance pay according to the Israeli severance pay law (Hebrew): wage cut wages at below the required minimum repeated tardy payments of salaries non-transfer of social benefits employment on Shabbat or holiday without required upgraded compensation employer ignoring safety or health issues infringement on employee's status, authorization or responsibilities change of employers transfer of employee to another site with same employer employee's change of residential address (to over 40 km distance) deterioration of health of employee or member of immediate family an employee who was sexually harassed a female employee who stayed at a shelter for abused women for over 60 days an employee who after giving birth and completing maternity leave, wants to resign in order to stay home and take care of her baby (provided this is done within 9 months of the birth of the baby) an employee who resigns in order to join the Israeli army or police. This list is not comprehensive. There may be other instances that warrant the same end result, including some which have been ruled upon by the Labor Court and some which have not. Obviously, in instances where the employee instigates trouble or purposely causes damages to the employer, he would not be entitled to severance pay. Disclaimer This article is a general guideline and by no means should it be used except in clear cut cases. It is advisable to consult with a labor law specialist or a lawyer who deals in labor law issues. Reducing Stress Who To Turn To After Illness The recovery process after an illness can be a long one that feels like you’re continually running uphill. Getting back on track can be more challenging than expected, but it’s important to remember that you will get there, and you will progress with time, effort, determination, and assistance. With this in mind, you should make a real effort to build relationships, and get the help you need and deserve. You can do this by contacting your hospital to explain and then getting onto the wards. If you’re still receiving treatment, then ask for other people’s names in order to stay in contact with them. What It Takes to Write For The Daily Show With Jon Stewart - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

What It Takes to Write For The Daily Show With Jon Stewart - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career *Following responses are not verbatim* I recently had the privilege to sit down with Delaney Yeager, a writer from The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Delaney told me about her experience on the show and the hard work it takes to be ready to air at 11pm Monday through Friday. The Daily Show’s focus is political satire covering current news stories through comedy. 2.5 Million viewers tune in every night to hear Jon Stewart report on the daily news. Christian Roberts: Where did you go to school? Delaney Yeager: I attended Pace University and had a major in Theater and minors in Creative Writing and Fine Art. As a kid, I wanted to be an actor. But after about two years in the BFA Acting program, I realized I felt more like a writer and director, so I changed my major and got myself a couple minors. I still love theater and have put up a couple shows at small theaters in Manhattan. My senior year in college I got an internship at The Daily Show in production. I met a lot of great people while interning and ended up starting a sketch group with a few former TDS interns. Skootch Comedy â€" look us up! Roberts: What’s an average writing day like on TDS? Yeager: It’s long. The day starts at 9:15 every morning. I normally get there earlier than that to give myself a little bit more time to get prepared. At around 9:15 we meet with the producers, Jon, and the entire writing staff. At this point everyone is up to date on the current events. A big part of the job is watching the news. So Jon will lay out the agenda, we are given our assignments, and then we’re off. We toss around ideas, write the jokes, and write more jokes. It’s the kind of job where you have to always be prepared. You could have a script ready to turn in, then something happens over night, and you would have to toss it and write another. That’s just how it goes! Roberts: What’s it like working with Jon Stewart? Yeager: It’s great. I still get star-struck sometimes. He’s crazy nice and the same guy in the office as he is on-camera, which is always refreshing. I mean, he’s Jon Stewart. Enough said. Roberts: What are important attributes a writer must have for TDS? Yeager: Definitely being able to work well under pressure. You have to be open to ideas and be able to speak them clearly. It’s a collaborative effort and if a joke doesn’t work you move on to the next one. You should also have a unique point of view, while being able to write in Jon’s voice. Roberts: What kind of career advice can you give to someone pursuing a career in writing for TV? Yeager: You must write all the time, even if it isn’t good. It’s a muscle that needs to be worked. Create stuff with your friends to keep the juices flowing, hang out with comedians and writers. Take constructive criticism from your peers, write some more, and have fun. And then write even more.

Where to Find Job Stability

Where to Find Job Stability The truth is, the old fashioned view of job stability is D.E.A.D. and it isnt coming back. Theres a new kind of stability and you own it! I dont want to sound like the alarmist, chicken little, and scream the sky is falling. Instead, my message is more like the parent who warns you not to run with a stick in your hand or youll poke your eye out. Dont panic, just be smart and do the right thing. In todays US News World Report post, I provide evidence that the hiring process is broken and spell out a clear and implementable solution for your career stability. Honestly, I dont think you are going to like my idea. It is bitter medicine to swallow, however, if you look at the alternativeswell, there just arent many. Power To The People Most of us deal with stress, fear and uncertainty on a daily basis. This stinks.  You should feel empowered and in control of your future. There is a solution, but it is going to require effort. And I get it. Not everyone is gung-ho about work and careers. A lot of us see our job as a means to an end. But what is that end?  You may be reading this and thinking, I just want to do my job and make money so I can finish that statement. Making A Living We all want and need enough money to survive.  As the song goes everybodys working for the weekend  When you end up working just so you can have money, chances are you want to spend that money on leisure activities. But who says you are entitled to leisure activities? Entitlement Im pretty sure free time and leisure were NOT included in the Declaration of Independence. It does include our rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  Yes, leisure time and activities would make us happy. Some will always have it, others strive for it.  So, let me ask you again. Why is it that you feel entitled to have free time? Is that some of the same old fashioned thinking that has been stuck in our heads? Is it a quality of life that may no longer be achievable? Work Hard and Stay Hungry Steve Jobs commencement address at Stanford includes a reminder to stay hungry- not literally hungry, but mentally hungry and driven to want. I hope youll read my newest post on On Careers to learn what you can do to create stability. And let me know what you think!

5 Reasons Why Less is More in Your Job Search - CareerAlley

5 Reasons Why Less is More in Your Job Search - CareerAlley We may receive compensation when you click on links to products from our partners. For those of you who have followed CareerAlley, you will know that Im a big advocate of getting your resume out there. The premise is that the more people who know you are job hunting, the better the chance that you will learn about opportunities. Like everything else in life, there can be too much of a good thing and having too many recruiters, job search boards and automated job match emails could dilute the value of your search. One obvious exception is your network, where you will want everyone in your network who can help you find a job to know you are on the hunt. Your cover letter should highlight the skills that match the job description and make sure you demonstrate that you know about their company. Tweet This So many Job Search Boards, so little time There is quite a bit of overlap across the major job search sites (especially the job site aggregators), so using more than 3 or 4 job search sites does not add much value. Pick two or three job search boards for your job search. A job search board that is dedicated or focused on your job/career type (such as financial services, retail, etc.). Two resources should be in the top 10 job search boards with at least one a job search aggregator. Leverage LinkedIn as an alternate source Limit the auto email function for jobs that match your profile. While some work reasonably well, others are not even close and are a waste of time, will fill your email inbox and will not add any value. 101 Best Cover Letters Price: $10.98 Buy Now from Amazon We earn a commission if you click this link and make a purchase at no additional cost to you. Last Updated: March 2, 2020 Older is Not Always Better Older job listings that is (not people). If you are using a job search site, narrow your searches to jobs that were posted within the last 7 days. Jobs posted more than 7 days ago most likely have had tens (or 100s) of responses and will probably be a waste of time. If, however, youve exhausted all of the job opportunities that are 7 days or newer then take a look at some older job postings, but dont get carried away. Long Cover Letters Just Dont Work Your cover letter is meant to be an introduction and should be short (not a bio of your entire career). A few short paragraphs are fine. You should start your cover letter with an explanation as to why you are writing (applying for a job opening, referred by someone in your network, etc.). Next, follow with why you are the perfect candidate. Cover the skills that match the job description and make sure you demonstrate that you know about their company. Close your letter by thanking them for their consideration and indicate that you will follow up with them in a few weeks (and dont forget your contact information). Your cover letter should be longer than a couple of lines but dont waste your time writing a novel either. 70% of hiring managers said the shorter the better. Somewhere between 250 and 400-word count is a good amount. However, you should focus more on the content than how many lines on the page you are taking up. Interviewers Dont Want to Hear About Your Summer Vacation When interviewers say So tell me about yourself, they are really wondering how you will respond to an unstructured question. While the interviewer does want to know what youve done that is relevant to the opportunity, they also want to know what you think is important. This is a perfect example where less is more. Keep it short and focus on what you think will most interest the interviewer about you. This should include relevant accomplishments, but leave personal details for the So what do you do in your spare time? question. Long Resumes Without Examples of Relevant Accomplishments Get Trashed Your resume is your most important career document.
